Shared understanding might be seen not just an an outcome of collaboration, but also as a precondition. Shared understanding not just of challenges and opportunities, but also what it is we're taking for granted (which may be by far the largest part).

Our potential for shared understanding may be much greater than we realise, and we tend to operate at comparatively low levels most of the time. It may not be too much of an exaggeration to say that often we muddle along with shared misunderstanding.

The deeper any initial shared understanding the richer any subsequent collaboration might become.

So, in this case, what's our shared understanding of the concept of shared understanding itself? How might shared understanding differ from shared awareness?

Shared awareness might develop apace within and during a collaboration, and coming about via shared experience.
